Welcome!
Each
year awakens fresh emotions for the public at the Franco-Irish
Literary Festival. In 2010, we are kicking off to a new decade, both
for the festival, which is entering its 11th year, and for the
Alliance Française which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in
style.
We hope to continue giving you the opportunity to discover and love
other aspects of Franco-Irish literature, on the occasion of an even
more enriching edition, around key writers who draw inspiration from
the theme of the city.
For Marguerite Yourcenar “Cities bear the marks of the passage of
time, occasionally the promises of future ages”. For this eleventh
edition, the Festival will lead you towards a multi-faceted city.
Having become a universal theme for so many writers, it feeds the
imagination of artists and the ambition of architects.
All sorts of issues are raised. Why is the theme of the city used
increasingly in literature? How can our modern day metropolis be
illustrated? Is the city a source of realistic or utopian ambition?
How can we imagine the suburbs of tomorrow?
Meet us in April, and let’s find out what relationships the guest
writers maintain with their cities.
The festival, jointly organised by the Alliance Française Dublin and
the cultural service of the French embassy, owes its continuity to
many partners who have confidence in it and support it. For this new
decade we are hoping for a similarly successful outcome, made
possible by the generosity of our sponsors – The Ireland Fund of
France, The Arts Council, Culture Ireland, Foras Na Gaeilge, Poetry
Ireland, the Irish Writers’ Centre, Ireland Literature Exchange,
Dublin City Council – by corporate assistance, by broad media
coverage (The Irish Times, RTĒ lyric fm, etc) and by the active
involvement of our organising committee.
Our writers truly contribute to the success of this wonderful event.
We pay a warm tribute to them and sincerely thank them for accepting
our invitation. We are convinced that they will make this eleventh
edition an unforgettable event once again.
