Jennifer
Johnston was born in Dublin in 1930 and was educated
at Trinity College. She lived in Paris for a year and
then London. She has written sixteen novels including
Shadows on Our Skin (1977), The Old Jest
(1979) and Grace and Truth (2005). She has also
written one full length play, Desert Lullaby, and
several short plays and monologues, all of which have
been either broadcast on the B.B.C. or staged in various
theatres in Ireland, England and America. Her novels
have been translated into many languages and have won
prizes in Italy, France and England, including the
Whitbread Prize and the Yorkshire Post Book of the Year.
She currently lives in Derry.
