Mahi Binebine

Born in Marrakech in 1959, Mahi Binebine came to Paris in 1980 to study mathematics, which he then taught for eight years, before devoting himself to writing and painting. He lived in New York from 1994 to 1999, then returned to Paris, before moving back to Marrakech in 2002. His paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Institut du Monde Arabe, and numerous public and private collections. He currently lives and works in Marrakech. His novels have been translated into some fifteen languages. His latest novel, “Mon frère fantôme”, was published in May 2022. He co-chairs, with Nabil Ayouch, the “Les Étoiles” cultural centres run by the Ali Zaoua Foundation.

Né en 1959 à Marrakech, Mahi Binebine s’installe à Paris en 1980 pour y poursuivre ses études de mathématiques qu’il enseigne pendant huit ans, avant de se consacrer à l’écriture et à la peinture. Il s’installe aÌ New York de 1994 aÌ 1999 puis retourne s’installer aÌ Paris qu’il quitte en 2002 pour rentrer aÌ Marrakech. Ses peintures font partie de la collection permanente du Musée Guggenheim de New York, de l’Institut du Monde Arabe, et de nombreuses collections publiques et privées. Il revient aÌ Marrakech en 2002 ouÌ il vit et travaille désormais. Ses romans sont traduits en une quinzaine de langues. Son dernier roman intitulé « Mon frère fantôme » est sorti en mai 2022. Il co-préside avec Nabil Ayouch les centres culturels « Les Etoiles » de la fondation Ali Zaoua.
