Taste

Welcome

Bienvenue / Fáilte

Nos goûts nous trahissent davantage que nos opinions
Pierre Bourdieu

For its 24th edition, the Franco-Irish Literary Festival welcomes booklovers to celebrate the historic links between France and Ireland through contemporary literature.

Jointly organised by the Alliance Française Dublin and the French Embassy in Ireland, the festival provides a forum for sharing experiences and meeting new people. With France having the honour of hosting the 19th Francophonie Summit in October 2024 at the Cité internationale de la langue française, we will strive to promote diversity and the values of the French-speaking world, inviting authors and moderators from Québec, Morocco, Switzerland, Ireland, and France.

This year, twelve francophone and Irish voices – the latter in both the English and Irish languages – will meet to discuss a common topic: taste.

How does taste make us feel? Where is the line between good and bad taste? Does taste depend on social context or personal preference? In a world where climate change, artificial intelligence, social media, and digital technology are all making their presence felt, what is the future of taste?

And last but not least, what is taste? Our guests will offer us their own definition at the opening evening, Incipit, where we will have the opportunity to meet them and hear them read the first page of their latest book. They will then explore these issues in the form of roundtables, interviews, signings, workshops, a series of podcasts, and more. The Festival will also feature a short film and a poetry performance set to music.

We gratefully acknowledge our loyal sponsors, The Arts Council, Foras na Gaeilge, and International Books, with a very special mention to the French laboratories Servier Monde for their unwavering support over many years; and our partners Dublin Castle, Literature Ireland, Dublin City University, Maynooth University, Trinity College, University College Dublin, the Association Internationale des Études Québécoises, the General Delegation of Québec in London, as well as all our media partners and stakeholders in this wonderful adventure.

Finally, we warmly welcome all the writers who are the real stars of this event. We feel certain that they are going to make this twenty-fourth anniversary a very special editio!

And as for you, our dear visitors, we are hugely thankful for your loyalty and enthusiasm, without which this festival would not be what it is today, a major event in the Dublin literary scene.

We look forward to seeing you, and you can be sure that all tastes will be catered for!

Enjoy the Festival! Bainigí sult as an bhféile!
