Micheál Ó Conghaile is from Connemara. He established the publishing company Cló Iar-Chonnacht in 1985, and he is a member of Aosdána (the Irish Academy of Letters). He writes in Irish, and has published poetry, short stories, a novel, plays, and a novella, and has also done several translations. He has won The Butler Literary Award from The Irish American Cultural Institute and The Hennessy Literary Award. His works have been translated into Romanian, Croatian, Albanian, Slovenian, German, Bengali, Polish, Macedonian, Arabic and English. He has been writer in residence at Queen’s University, Belfast and at the University of Ulster Coleraine. He received an honorary degree from the NUI, Galway. His most recent publication is Laethanta Sona, 2021, a translation of Beckett’s Happy Days.
Originaire du Connemara, Micheál Ó Conghaile a créé la maison d'édition Cló Iar-Chonnacht en 1985. Membre de l'association Aosdána (l'Académie irlandaise des lettres). Il écrit en irlandais et a publié de la poésie, des nouvelles, un roman, des pièces de théâtre ainsi qu'un roman court. Il a également réalisé plusieurs traductions et reçu le prix littéraire Butler de l'Institut culturel irlando-américain ainsi que le prix littéraire Hennessy. Ses ouvrages ont été traduits en roumain, croate, albanais, slovène, allemand, bengali, polonais, macédonien, arabe et en anglais. Il a été écrivain en résidence à Queen’s University de Belfast et à l'University of Ulster de Coleraine. Elle a reçu un doctorat honoris causa de la National University of Ireland de Galway.
