Born in Waterford in 1954, he received his education at University College Cork. Thomas McCarthys was a public librarian for many years, but is now writing full-time. He has been awarded the Patrick Kavanagh Award (1977), Alice Hunt Bartlett Prize (1981), as well as the American-Irish Foundation Literary Award (1984), and O’Shaughnessy Poetry Prize (2001). Seven collections of poetry, two novels and a book of essays later, he is back with a new collection in preparation named Pandemonium. He is also a Member of Aosdána, an Irish association of artists.

 

Né dans le comté de Waterford en 1954, Thomas McCarthy a suivi des études à University College Cork. Longtemps bibliothécaire, il se consacre désormais entièrement à sa carrière d’écrivain. Il a reçu le Prix Patrick Kavanagh en 1977, le prix Alice Hunt Bartlett en 1981, le prix de la Fondation littéraire américano-irlandaise en 1984 et le Prix de poésie O’Shaughnessy en 2001. Après sept recueils de poèmes, deux romans et un recueil d’essais, Thomas McCarthy revient avec la préparation d’un nouveau recueil intitulé Pandemonium.
